Title: Professional Practice and Personal Development / Brief 1

Professional Development Planning Blog

When & Where:

FP6006 will take place on various Thursdays (see timetable) & Friday afternoons between 2-4:30pm with Nana Varveropoulou and a series of Photographic industry guests online and in room KPLB 206 (subject to change if advised) and in tutor groups on your allocated day.

Brief

For this brief you will be contributing to your very own illustrated blog, set up specifically for the purposes of this module. This blog will allow you to compile a detailed body of evidence that demonstrates your increasing awareness of different photographic specialisms and the strategies you need to develop in order to pursue a professional career. Your blog will also be the place where you critically reflect on your research, your findings and your experiences.


Your illustrated blog will need to include:

  • In depth research on the photographic specialism your aim to pursue. Research a minimum of 5 photographers/ artists. Discuss their work in depth.
  • A minimum of 2 interviews with photographers/artists working within your chosen specialism (physical or virtual).
  • A minimum of 1 day of work experience/ assisting (physical or virtual).
  • Evidence and discussion of industry visits (studio visits, exhibitions physical or virtual, talks, workshops – externally and not in university). Minimum of 5 research (physical or virtual) visits, talks etc attended.
  • Submitting your own work to a minimum of 1 photographic competition and/or participating in portfolio reviews. Evidence and discuss the process of selecting the competition and selecting/preparing your work for submission.
  • Editing and producing a digital photographic portfolio of existing work (and online – e.g. website). Minimum 15 images.
  • Using Social Media (Instagram) for self-promotion. Minimum 15 posts.

The delivery of this module will be supported through by a programme of talks and workshops delivered by a range of photographic practitioners, agents or consultants. Specified tasks will also be handed out to support the production of your illustrated blog.

This is the first brief out of two for FP6006 Professional Practice & Personal Development Module.


Submission Requirements:

You must submit the following:

1. Illustrated Blog (including interviews, work experience etc)

2. Website-in-progress (online, public and ‘live’)

3. Portfolio of existing projects - minimum of 15 images (in PDF digital format)

4. Instagram account used for professional self-promotion (min 15 posts).
