Work Experience - Young Actors Group.

 

YG Musicality – young actors and performance group.

Location: Harlequin Theatre and Cinema, Redhill

Date: 8th and 9th August 2017

As part of my work experience as a photographer I had a previous opportunity on the 8th and 9th of August 2017 working with YG Musicality who are a young actors and performance group based in Redhill who perform in productions at the Harlequin Theatre and Cinema. For this work experience I was situated in the role of photographer and stage assistant throughout the two nights I was working for the performance group.


As a photographer, I was required to work closely with the performers and management who had
arranged the performance both before and after the show, taking backstage and performance photographs that would be used for advertisement and publicity on their websites and social medias as well as for sale in the programmes and photographic prints made for the productions. I was also required to help with setting up the photographic and camera equipment such as tripods, lighting, backdrops, and studio settings whilst being able to give input and information to the members of staff I was working for through my photographs as well as myself about the lighting and arrangement of props on and offstage so that they could be arranged for the final performance so that the performers where not obscured or the imagery for the programmes distorted by the lighting onstage.


Through this work experience I built up a lot of confidence in terms of working with clients and their management as well as set and prop designers and lighting teams in order to be able to set up the stage and communicate with them how the photographic prints had come out after the night of shooting. I was also able to learn a lot in regard to the performers and become close friends with some of them who were comfortable enough to reach out to me at later dates for photographs for their acting portfolios.
